Single-Anastomosis Sleeve Jejunal Bypass (SASJ): The Long-Term Outcomes of a New Surgical Technique
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the surgical concept, technical steps, and physiological rationale of Single-Anastomosis Sleeve Jejunal Bypass (SASJ) as a hybrid restrictive–malabsorptive bariatric procedure.
- Evaluate the long-term (5-year) efficacy of SASJ in achieving significant weight loss, including reductions in BMI and high excess weight loss (%EWL).
- Analyze the metabolic benefits of SASJ, particularly remission rates of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.
- Recognize the safety profile of SASJ, including low rates of major surgical complications and absence of clinically significant malnutrition.
- Identify and interpret the pattern and clinical implications of recurrent weight gain (RWG) following bariatric surgery.
- Discuss the importance of long-term follow-up and multidisciplinary care in maintaining weight loss outcomes.
- Compare SASJ outcomes with other established bariatric procedures (e.g., SG, OAGB, RYGB) in terms of efficacy and safety.
