Feasibility and Effectiveness of Opioid-free Pain Management after Discharge following Bariatric Surgery
Learning Objectives
- To assess medium- to long-term outcomes of four revisional surgeries after primary sleeve gastrectomy for suboptimal weight loss or persistent associated medical problems.
- To evaluate the comparative-effectiveness of an opioid-free pain management protocol after discharge following bariatric surgery.

Dr. Ali Safar, MD, FRCSC
Ali graduated from Kuwait University with 2 bachelor degrees, one in Basic Medical Sciences and another one in Medicine and Surgery. He then joined the McGill general surgery family in 2019 and completed general surgery residency in 2024. During residency, Ali participated in clinical research with a focus on bariatric and metabolic surgery under the supervision of Dr. Amin Andalib. He then completed a clinical fellowship in Advanced GI Minimally Invasive Surgery at Western University in 2025. Ali is now a clinical fellow in Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery at McGill University.
