Dr. Mehran Anvari, O.C., O.Ont., MB BS, PhD, FRCSC, FACS

Professor, Surgery

Dr. Mehran Anvari is a Professor of Surgery at McMaster University and an Adjunct Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES). He is the founder of the Centre for Minimal Access Surgery and serves as the Clinical Lead and Chair of the Ontario Bariatric Network. He is also the Scientific Director and CEO of the Centre for Surgical Invention and Innovation.

With over 15 years of experience teaching laparoscopic bariatric procedures in Canada and internationally, Dr. Anvari is a faculty member of several bariatric programs, including the European Institute of Telesurgery in Strasbourg, France.

As a dedicated researcher, supervisor, mentor, and advisor, Dr. Anvari is deeply committed to advancing education, innovation, and scholarly publication. He has authored over 200 publications, holds seven patents, and serves as the principal investigator for numerous studies focused on obesity, gastrointestinal diseases, and surgical robotic systems and techniques.

His many contributions to medicine and innovation have been recognized with numerous prestigious honors, including the Order of Ontario (2017), the Order of Canada (2022), McMaster University's Lifetime Innovator Award (2024), and the King Charles III Coronation Medal (2025).
