Endoscopic Suturing -
Endobariatric Hands-on Workshop: Introduction to ESG and TORe Procedures
As the field of Endobariatrics is developing in Canada, the Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons (CABPS) is proudly offering, once again, an endoscopic suturing workshop at the Canadian Obesity Weekend scheduled for May 21 – 23, 2026 in Quebec City. This hands-on course serves as an opportunity to learn about the different procedures, indications, techniques. Besides Endobariatrics, participants will have an opportunity to try other procedures as well, e.g. stent fixation or defect closure.

Dr. Andras B. Fecso, MD, PhD, FRCSC, FACS completed his medical school at the George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Targu-Mures, Romania.
After completing his postgraduate training in general surgery at the University of Toronto, he subsequently completed fellowship training in Minimally Invasive & Bariatric Surgery and Therapeutic Endoscopy at University of Toronto. He obtained a PhD degree in surgical education, at the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto.
He is a Surgeon Investigator at the Institute of Education Research; an Assistant Professor at University of Toronto; the Endoscopy Education Lead at the Temerty Advanced Surgical Education & Simulation Centre at the Michener Institute; an Associate Faculty at the Institute of Medical Science.
His clinical interest focuses on minimally invasive foregut surgery, luminal therapeutic and bariatric endoscopy. His academic and research interest is in education and innovation in the field of surgical and bariatric endoscopy.
Dr. Fecso has established and leading the first academic endobariatric program in Canada, at University Health Network, which embraces the expertise of a multidisciplinary team to offer a personalized, patient centered care.
Dr. Radu Pescarus, MD, FRCSC, DABOM, President

After completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology at McGill University, Dr. Radu Pescarus continued his medical studies at the University of Montreal. He pursued his general surgery training in the hospitals of the University of Montreal, followed by a one-year fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at McMaster University. Subsequently, he underwent a second clinical fellowship in Portland, USA to further his knowledge of esophago-gastric surgery as well as advanced gastrointestinal therapeutic endoscopy.
Upon his return to Quebec, he joined the surgery department of the Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur de Montréal and is currently an Associate Professor at Université de Montréal. His clinical practice specializes in minimally invasive bariatric surgery, foregut surgery, as well as gastrointestinal therapeutic endoscopy, including third space endoscopic procedures.
Dr Pescarus is currently the President of CABPS, as well as the co-Fellowship Program Director of the Université de Montréal MIS/Bariatric Program. As such, he is involved with the clinical and research training of international bariatric surgery fellows, as well as senior residents during their minimally-invasive surgery rotation every year. His academic interests include clinical outcomes research in revisional bariatric surgery and the endoscopic treatment of upper gastrointestinal surgical complications.

Dr. Ahmed Jad is a General and Bariatric Surgeon in Truro, Nova Scotia, and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Dalhousie University. An American Board of Obesity Medicine diplomate, he leads a multidisciplinary bariatric program focused on enhanced recovery and outcomes-driven care. He has introduced several bariatric and endoscopic innovations in Atlantic Canada, including ESG and TORe, SADI and is developing hybrid approaches integrating metabolic and anti-reflux procedures. His work centers on advancing access to comprehensive obesity care and building scalable bariatric programs in regional settings.

Dr. Roberto Trasolini
Advanced Endoscopist, Vancouver General Hospital
Dr. Roberto Trasolini is an advanced endoscopist at Vancouver General Hospital. He completed a fellowship in advanced endoscopy at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston and a fellowship in bariatric endoscopy and endo surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He has performed over 200 endoscopic bariatric procedures including primary and revisional procedures using a variety of devices. He has participated in early and late stage laboratory and clinical research for a variety of endoscopic procedures and devices.

Il est chirurgien chercheur à l’Institut de recherche en éducation, professeur adjoint à l’Université de Toronto, responsable de l’enseignement de l’endoscopie au Temerty Advanced Surgical Education & Simulation Centre à l’Institut Michener et professeur agrégé à l’Institut des sciences médicales.
Son intérêt clinique se concentre sur la chirurgie mini-invasive de l’intestin, la thérapie luminale et l’endoscopie bariatrique. Son intérêt académique et de recherche porte sur l’éducation et l’innovation dans le domaine de l’endoscopie chirurgicale et bariatrique.
Le Dr Fecso a mis sur pied et dirigé le premier programme universitaire d’endobariatrie au Canada, au Réseau universitaire de santé, qui fait appel à l’expertise d’une équipe multidisciplinaire pour offrir des soins personnalisés et axés sur le patient.

Après avoir obtenu un baccalauréat ès sciences en biologie à l’Université McGill, le Dr Pescarus a poursuivi ses études en médecine à l’Université de Montréal. Il a poursuivi sa formation en chirurgie générale dans les hôpitaux de l’Université de Montréal, suivie d’une bourse de recherche d’un an en chirurgie bariatrique et mini-invasive à l’Université McMaster. Par la suite, il a suivi une deuxième bourse clinique à Portland, aux États-Unis, pour approfondir ses connaissances en chirurgie oesophago-gastrique ainsi qu’en endoscopie thérapeutique gastro-intestinale avancée.
À son retour au Québec, il s’est joint au service de chirurgie de l’Hôpital du Sacré-Cœur de Montréal et est actuellement professeur agrégé à l’Université de Montréal. Sa pratique clinique se spécialise dans la chirurgie bariatrique mini-invasive, la chirurgie de l’intestin, ainsi que l’endoscopie thérapeutique gastro-intestinale, y compris les procédures endoscopiques du troisième espace.
Dr Pescarus est actuellement vice-président du CABPS et président du programme du week-end canadien de l’obésité 2024. Il est également impliqué dans la formation clinique et de recherche des boursiers internationaux en chirurgie bariatrique, ainsi que des résidents seniors lors de leur rotation de chirurgie mini-invasive chaque année. Ses intérêts académiques comprennent la recherche sur les résultats cliniques en chirurgie bariatrique révisionnelle et le traitement endoscopique des complications chirurgicales gastro-intestinales supérieures.

Son travail est axé sur l’amélioration de l’accès à des soins complets contre l’obésité et la mise en place de programmes bariatriques évolutifs dans des contextes régionaux.

Dr Roberto Trasolini est endoscopiste avancé à l’Hôpital général de Vancouver. Il a complété une bourse en endoscopie avancée au Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center à Boston et une bourse en endoscopie bariatrique et en chirurgie endo à Brigham and Women’s Hospital à Boston. Il a pratiqué plus de 200 interventions bariatriques endoscopiques, y compris des interventions primaires et révisionnelles, à l’aide de divers appareils. Il a participé à des recherches cliniques et de laboratoire en début et en fin de carrière pour une variété de procédures et d’appareils endoscopiques.
